HEC offering Indigenous Ph.D. Scholarships for promoting R&D in Pakistani Universities

The Higher Education Commission of Pakistan offers Indigenous Scholarships for Ph.D. studies in Pakistani Universities to Pakistani and AJK Nationals. This Scholarship scheme is offered for direct Ph.D. studies as well as for MS/M.Phil. admissions leading to Ph.D studies. The detailed eligibility for the HEC Indigenous Scholarships is given below;

1. Must be Pakistani or AJK National
2. To study MS/M.Phil via this scholarship, one must have 16 years education without any 3rd division or D Grade in the entire academic qualifications.
3. To study Ph.D. directly through this Scholarship, one must have a CGPA of 3.0 out of 4.0 or 1st Division in MS/M.Phil along with the precondition (2).
4. Maximum age should be;
1. 40 years for Public Sector/R&D Organizations Employees including Full-Time Regular faculty members of public universities / DAIs
2. 35 years for everybody else
5. Should not have availed any other scholarship offered by the HEC or Government.

It should be noted that the HEC Indigenous Ph.D. scholarship is not only for direct admissions in Ph.D., rather students having 16 years of education (and meeting the eligibility requirements stated above) are also eligible to take admission for this scholarship. Such students will have to study MS/M.Phil. initially and then complete Ph.D. under the same scheme. However, Ph.D. must be done eventually and the study cannot be quitted intermittently or altogether.

Students already studying Masters or M.Phil. in any Pakistani University may also apply for this scholarship. They shall complete their current Masters/M.Phil. and thereafter continue for the Ph.D. studies through this scholarship. Similarly current Ph.D. students of Pakistani Universities may also apply for this scholarship (if they are not availing any other HEC or Government Scholarship). However, in any case the student should be enrolled after Fall 2013 in the current Master/M.Phil or Ph.D. studies (for the Indigenous Scholarships 2015) to be eligible for being awarded the scholarship.

The most encouraging aspect of the HEC Indigenous Scholarships is that employees of the Public Sector / R&D Organizations and Full-Time Regular faculty members of the Public Pakistani Universities / Degree Awarding Institutes can also avail this scholarship along with a 5 years relaxation in the upper age limit as compared to the general students. But they must get an NOC or No Objection Certificate from their Parent Department for the studies and present it to HEC before the final award of the scholarship / starting of studies.

It is also worth mentioning that HEC doesn't require you to pass GAT from NTS in order to apply for this scholarship program. Instead, HEC will conduct Tests under its own arrangement for evaluation of the students.
 

Terms and Conditions for the award of HEC Indigenous Scholarship for Ph.D. studies

• The Course of study furnished on the application form by the potential student or that awarded by the HEC is not changeable afterwards at any time.
• The scholarship studies can be done only in certain universities designated by the HEC for the purpose.
• Those already studying Ph.D. and applying for the scholarship must be studying as a regular student under the supervision of an HEC approved supervisor.

• Change of University or Institute can be done only under extremely unavoidable circumstances
• The employees would have to avail leave from their departments and study as full-time regular students. 
•  An awardee of the scholarship has to sign a bond for serving Pakistan preferably the Higher Educational Institutions for at-least 5 years after the studies

HEC Indigenous Scholarships 2015 Admissions

Admissions for the Indigenous Scholarships 2015 have been announced by HEC, and the willing students may apply online after registering themselves at the HEC Online Portal. After applying online, you'll have to take a Print-Out of your application and send it to the following address along with the required documents and the paid fees voucher.
