University of Karachi

The University of Karachi is a public sector university chartered by the Government of Sindh. Primarily, it was established as a federally chartered university in 1951 but in 1962 it was shifted under the administrative umbrella of the provincial government of Sindh. During its first two years, it was only an examining body for its affiliated colleges, but thereafter it started its own services for teaching and research in the fields of Arts and Science. There are 8 faculties in the university which have 53 departments and 20 research centers. These faculties include the faculty of Arts, Science, Islamic Studies, Pharmacy, Management and Administrative Sciences, Law, Education and Medicine. The university campus holds 24000 students, 800 teachers and 2500 assisting staff.

The present campus of the university is located on approximately 1200 acres of land on the university road (formerly known as country club road), Karachi. Hence it is the biggest Pakistani University. All the colleges of the city are affiliated with the Karachi University, which offer B.S., M.S., M.Phil and Ph.D degrees in the faculties of medicine, law and education through this affiliation.

Evening Programs at Karachi University

The university started offering evening programs in various fields of education in 1995, the programs are specially beneficial for the job holding students. The degree courses offered in the evening programs include B.S. (4 years), B.S. (Hons), BPA, BBA, MBA, MCS and M.Pharm. The B.S. programs are offered in the following subjects;

agricultural and agri-business managements, applied chemistry, chemistry, mathematics, physics, botany, zoology, applied physics, biochemistry, biotechnology, business administration, commerce, computer sciences, economics, education, English, Urdu, environmental studies, food sciences and technology, international relations, mass communication, physiology, psychology, public administration, sociology, special education, statistics and women studies
